Phone Etiquette

Yesterday I answered a phone call at work, because the receptionist was on her lunch break. The conversation went like this.

"Good Afternoon (name of company where I work)"
"I'd like to speak with Jill"
"I'm sorry Jill is on another line at the moment, may I put you through to her voicemail?"
"I need to speak with her"
"I understand that but she is unavailable, do you have a number where she could call you back?"
"I'm at work"
"Ok, can you be contacted at work?"
"I might be busy"
"Ok, well I'm not sure what to tell you, because she is unavailable, and may be quite some time on the phone. Would you like to hold for her?"
"Ok, but I don't want to hold for too long. I need to speak with her."
"Alright sir, I can understand that, but I certainly can't say how long you'll be holding for, because there is no way of knowing how long she will be on the phone. I'll check back with you in a few minutes to see if you'd like to continue holding."
(put phone on hold)

This is completely unacceptable phone etiquette. It has been coming to my attention more and more lately that there are a lot of people on this planet who don't have any people skills, common sence, or common courtesty. It infuriates me. I realize I should calm down about it, and just take it in stride...but it annoys me to no end.

On another note, I had a thrilling conversation with my brother Josh last night. It was great fun, and I got to know all about his incredibly insane neighbor. Josh I wish you'd post that letter that he wrote you, and that you wrote him somewhere on the internet I could link to. That'd be a great idea!

Anyway, I'm going to make myself some cream of wheat for breakfast and get on my way to work.

**the Motorcycle woke me up again this morning, leaving me trying to think of where I could buy a paintball gun.**

People are rude. And getting ruder. My friends that work in call-centers have tons of stories where someone is rude or impatient or both! At least you don't answer phones all the time.

I would love to read the letter your brother Josh got. I could use it to get some ideas to write to the people living above me. Their sex life was waking me up! At least they don't take very long.

Not quite sure how i'd post the letter, but.....i'll make it available somehow. I tried to call you guys back last night. Becca called me and some people from work had phoned her asking her to come out to dinner with them after work, so I went and picked her up at work, and dropped her off with her friends, then came home and found my chicken burning like crazy in the oven. Then I tried you guys back but no luck. Oh well! later!

I'm not really going to comment on the rude people thing. . .although I agree. I just wanted to say I love you! =)
